ABOUT THIS COURSE
Effective communication with patients and colleagues can lead to increased patient knowledge, improved patient safety and better health outcomes. In this course, you’ll gain foundational skills to communicate with clarity and engage and invite dialogue with patients and colleagues.
EXPECT TO LEARN HOW TO:
- explain how effective communication within health care organizations improves the quality of patient care, patient safety and health outcomes;
- describe the essential components of verbal and nonverbal communication;
- apply effective communication strategies for framing messaging with patients and their families in several contexts, including sharing bad news, communicating risk, obtaining informed consent and discussing end of life; and
- apply effective strategies for communicating within health care teams in several contexts, including during handovers, when making referrals and in written communication.
